Fern Britton has handed in her notice on ITV’s This Morning, and will leave her much loved presenting job at the end of this series.
The 51-year-old presenter has said that her family and the need to “explore other things” as her reasons for leaving the show.
She’s presented the daytime programme for ten years, six of those have been spent alongside co-host Phillip Schofield.
In a statement, mum-of-four Fern said:
“I have decided to leave the show at the end of the current series. I will present my last show on 17th July, my birthday, which seems somehow appropriate.
“The This Morning team are simply the best and I will miss them all very much but I am looking forward to the freedom of exploring other things I want to do, and also spend more time with my wonderful family.
“So many thank yous to all our viewers who have shown me so much kindness and loyalty,” she ended.
As much as I like Fern, I have to admit this is sensible timing due to ITV cutting her salery because of money issues. Earlier this year ITV said in a statement that This Moring may be taken off the air completely.
But spending time with the family is a much nicer excuse.
Yesterday the sad news that beloved British actress, Wendy Richards had died reached the hedlines. She passed away yesterday morning at London’s Harley Street Clinic with husband John Burns by her side.

Wendy, announced she had terminal cancer in October, she wed long-term partner John days later.
Wendy had overcome breast cancer twice before, and her strength and dignity over her illness helped many women who had recieved similar news.
Victoria Beckham is said to be in the final stages of ‘talks’ with Simon Cowell about becoming an X-Factor Judge.
Simon Cowell has offered Victoria Beckham the job of being a Judge many times before but she had always refused due to her commitments in LA.
A source said to the Daily Mail, “She doesn’t want to come back to Europe with her tail between her legs. But if she can return here to be on The X Factor, then that is different,”
It is belived that Victoria will take the position on the judging panel, after her celebrity status has suffered since her move to LA.
